AtHomeStudios is a collective of artists practicing from a studio that is based in their home. There are many advantages to working from home; low cost, convenience, increased productivity, comfort, privacy and more connection to daily life. There are also disadvantages, such as isolation, lack of peer critique, lack of social and networking opportunities, and a perception of invisibility. AtHomeStudios was formed in 2013 by artist Orla Whelan as a proactive step to address some of these concerns. It provides opportunities for peer critique, collaboration and a space to share ideas.
AtHomeStudios meets every two months at the VAI offices on Oliver Bond St, Dublin 8. The meetings provide a social opportunity to meet other artists working in isolation, to share ideas, gain feedback and discuss common concerns. The artists individual practices are distinct and varied; including work in film, installation, painting, drawing, sculpture, new media and collaboration. At each meeting there is a brief discussion of an agreed article or text, an opportunity to present work for feedback, and an opportunity to share opportunities, ideas and suggestions with others in the group.

Dee Walsh, I’m currently working from my home in Drogheda, I’ve just missed the meeting this time but I hope to attend the next one.
Delighted to have come across this. Thanks
Kind Regards
Dee
Hi Dee, thanks for your interest in AtHomeStudios. The meetings are actually just for AHS members which we keep to 20 artists at a time. We are currently full, but we will be reviewing our membership in the new year so if you are still interested in joining, just send us an email.
Best regards
Orla

I am an impressionist artist working from home in Blackrock. I work in a variety of mediums paintings, woodcarvings, and mild steel sculpture.
I would be interested in joining your group and attending the meetings.

Thanks for all the enquires about AtHomeStudios. It can be difficult to arrange meeting times that suit everyone, and so far mornings have been the most successful time, so our next three meetings; March, May and July are scheduled for Tuesday mornings.
In response to the interest from those artists outside the Dublin area, everyone is welcome to attend the meetings once they RSVP, but the group is probably most suited to artists based in the Dublin area, as an important aspect of AtHomeStudios is for members to be available to meet in person with other contemporary artists. That said, anyone willing to travel to the meetings is more than welcome to come.
Best regards
Orla
Helen Sharkey here: I live and work on Mahee Island, in Strangford Lough in County Down. NI and I am very interested in joining but having the group meetings starting at 10am is not realistic for me as it would take 4 and 1/2 hours on the road for me to get there during morning commuter traffic-
Any chance of having meetings in the afternoon instead so those of us nowhere near Dublin dont have to get up before 5am!
Many thanks
Guys I would love to be a part of this. I’m a full time watercolour artist here in Co Laois. I specialise in fine detail animal portraiture, landscape, portraiture, period buildings etc etc. I’m originally from Dublin and moved to Laois for a quieter life and to pursue my passion. I need to break out of my shell. I live rurally so I work alone and I was quite surprised that this organisation actually existed.
I think the artist name was Seoidin that spoke last meeting anyway i found this redencey she maybe intersted in.it no good to me as my child is in school but this has childcare attached to it but only runs during school time in Sweeden.it sounds great. http://www.wsworkshop.org/residencies/parent-residency-grant/
Will do. Thanks a million.
